Microsoft released their newest operating system beta, Windows 7 a few days ago. We built two new PCs for Xmas this year, mostly so we could play World of Warcraft together. Both systems are AMD dual core 64bit processor based, one with 4gb of ram. I initially installed Windows XP 32bit just to get the computers running quickly. They both ran great, but I had some idea that I was just not getting the performance that both PCs should be giving me. The one that has 4gb of ram was only showing 3.75gb, not a big difference, but not all of the ram.
So today I decided to install the Windows 7 beta and I really like it a lot. I have not had any reason to use Vista, so I only have assumptions based on hearsay, so I wanted to try the new OS for myself.
The install went off with no problems at all, I think it might have even seemed quicker than other windows installs. I liked the new disk drive interface during install, very nice and easy to use.
All of my drivers seemed to install with no problems. I updated the video card driver and did my windows updates and everything just works. I found my Warcraft install directory from my XP partition and just ran the launcher, and wouldn’t you know it, Warcraft ran better than on any other system I have had.
These are just some fast impressions of the new Microsoft operating system, Windows 7, but I do plan on using it for awhile, and maybe making the switch over from XP…
